Documenta professor Mi You is part of the selection for the 40 Under 40 Asia Pacific of the international art magazine Apollo. With the 40 Under 40, Apollo honors individuals and collectives under the age of 40 who, in the opinion of an international jury, will have a significant impact on the future of the art world.
Apollo magazine announced the 40 Under 40 list for the ninth time on September 22, 2022. This year, the selection focused on individuals and collectives born or based in East Asia, South East Asia or Australasia. The 40 Under 40 presents individuals and collectives that shape the future of art, transforming how it is made, experienced, bought and sold in both local and global contexts. The list includes three sections, Artists, Thinkers and Business. The jury consisted of Lee Bul (artist), Tony Ellwood (Director of the National Gallery of Victoria), curators Shihoko Iida, Daehyung Lee and Carol Yinghua Lu, and Aaron Seeto (Director of Museum MACAN).
Prof. Dr Mi You was awarded a place on the list based on her scholarly and curatorial work. As professor at the Department of Art and Economies at the documenta Institute and the University of Kassel, she takes an interdisciplinary approach that combines history, philosophy, and political theory with a focus on performance and new media art. She has also curated exhibitions and programs at the Asia Culture Center in Gwangju, the Ulaanbaatar International Media Art Festival, and the Zarya CCA in Vladivostok and was part of the curating team of the Shanghai Biennale 2020/21. Most recently, Mi You worked on the international exhibition Lonley Vectors.
