The public talk “Beyond the Colonial Echoes” with researcher Ngô Thanh, curator Su Wei and professor Mi You examines various historical references in art from the second half of the 20th century to the present.
In this context, the role of art in shaping national identity under socialism and post-socialism as well as the development of critical discourse and paradigms will be examined.
The talk “Beyond the Colonical Echoes” and the workshop of the same name, which took place on the previous two days, were part of a project to rediscover and reassess history “Watch on a Promontory: Artistic Internal and External Exchanges in East, Southeast, and South Asia in the 1950s-1980s,” initiated by Su Wei, an independent curator and art history researcher, and You Mi, a professor at the University of Kassel in Germany, with the full support of the Goethe-Institut (China) and in collaboration with the Goethe-Instituts of Calcutta, Hanoi, Jakarta, Kyoto, Manila, Mumbai, and Seoul (in alphabetical order). The documenta Institute is also sponsoring the symposium and the publication next year.
The talk will take place on Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 2-4 pm at the Goethe-Institut Hanoi.
