From September 01 to 02, the ZERO foundation will host the workshop "ZERO-Abécédaire: ZERO from A-Z", in which institute director Heinz Bude will also participate.
The ZERO-Abécédaire provides answers to these questions. From A as in Atelier to Z as in ZERO, it looks at the international art movement ZERO, which in the course of the 1960s developed into one of the best-known avant-gardes of the post-war period. For the ZERO protagonists, the painting that had prevailed until then was obsolete. They experimented with new materials previously alien to art - fire, Plexiglas, mirrors, nails, aluminum foil, electric light. The result was an aesthetic all of its own, which included themes such as light, space, movement, sound, performative elements, and the inclusion of the viewer in the work as central aspects.
Is it even possible to summarize an art movement that was so diverse?
